Sanctioned load is the maximum power your connection is allowed to draw, in kW. Exceeding it trips your supply, so size it to your diversified load with some headroom.
How this works
Your connected load is the sum of every appliance, but they rarely all run at once, so a diversity factor of around 60% gives a realistic figure for sizing your main isolator and sanctioned load. Homes above roughly 7 kW usually move to a three-phase connection.

When to move to three phase
A single-phase connection comfortably handles most homes up to roughly 5-7 kW of diversified load. Above that — large homes with multiple ACs, a pump and a geyser — a three-phase connection spreads the load across three lines and runs heavy motors more smoothly.
